Getting started with counselling

Step 1: Get in touch To discuss the possibility of counselling with me, do make contact by text, phone or email. I offer a 15 minute telephone consultation free of charge, or am happy to answer questions by email or text, to help you decide whether to make an assessment appointment.

Step 2: Assessment session An assessment appointment is a one-off, no-obligation conversation to help us decide together whether/how I might be able to help you.  The session lasts for up to 60 minutes and my current fee is £55.  The fee is payable in cash at the session or in advance by bank transfer.  Fees are reviewed annually.

In the assessment session we will:

I offer both short-term and long-term counselling.  The number of sessions will be agreed between us at this stage but can be shortened or extended later by mutual agreement.

If counselling does not appear suitable, or I am not the best person to help you, I will signpost you to other sources of help.

Step 3: Counselling sessions

Counselling sessions last for 60 minutes and, wherever possible, take place weekly at the same time.  Each session is currently charged at £55, payable in cash at the session, or in advance by bank transfer.

Access and mobility

In-person appointments take place at the Raylor Centre, James Street, York, YO10 3DW.  Free parking is available at the venue, and several bus routes pass the Centre.

There is level access to the ground floor; the counselling room is on the first floor and a stair-lift is usually available by prior arrangement.  There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor; if this is locked please ask at Reception for the key.

It is important to me to offer you an accessible service so if you have particular access needs please do raise this when we arrange our assessment appointment so I can make sure I accommodate you properly
