Step 1: Get in touch
To discuss the possibility of counselling with me, do make contact by email, text or phone. I offer a 15 minute telephone consultation free of charge, or am happy to answer questions by email or text, to help you decide whether to make an assessment appointment.
Step 2: Assessment session
An assessment appointment is a one-off, no-obligation conversation to help us decide together whether we will prove to be a good "fit" and create the right environment for you to do the work you need to do. I offer a session lasting for up to 60 minutes in which we will:
§ discuss what has brought you to counselling at this time and what you hope to get from it
§ discuss your understanding of counselling and how the process works
§ decide together whether we can work together productively
§ if so, consider how best we can work together and how many times we will meet in the first instance
If counselling does not appear a suitable option at this time, or I believe I am not the best person to help you, I will signpost you to other sources of help.
My current fee for this exploratory session is £55 (rising to £60 from 1 April 2026). The fee is payable at the session by cash or cheque or in advance by bank transfer. Fees are reviewed annually.
Step 3: Counselling sessions
I offer a full 60-minute counselling session and usually agree a pattern of weekly meetings at the same time, for simplicity's sake and to create some momentum in the work. Each session is currently charged at £55 (rising to £60 from 1 April 2026), payable in cash or cheque at the session, or in advance by bank transfer.
My working times
My working week is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday daytimes.
Sessions in person
These are available at the Raylor Centre, James Street, York, YO10 3DW on Monday afternoons and Tuesday afternoons.
In terms of access, there is a bus route along James Street. Free visitor parking is available at the Raylor Centre; turn left straight after turning off James Street. (The main car park is for tenants only and is monitored by cameras.)
There is level access to the ground floor; the counselling room is on the first floor and a stair-lift is usually available by prior arrangement. There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor; in the unlikely event that it is locked please ask at Reception for a key.
It is important to me to offer you an accessible service so if you have particular access needs please do raise this when we arrange our initial appointment so I can make sure I accommodate you properly.
Remote sessions
Sessions are available remotely by phone or on Zoom. The additional terms and conditions that apply to telephone and video sessions respectively can be accessed on my Terms of Business page.
